Alfalfa sprouts can be eaten raw or cooked. Raw alfalfa sprouts contain significant amounts of antioxidants, minerals and vitamins. Sprouted alfalfa seeds are a great source of dietary fibre and protein as well.

Health Benefits of Alfalfa Seeds

Alfalfa sprouts are a good source of many essential nutrients, including vitamins K and C, folate, copper, and manganese. They also contain numerous enzymes that can help the body break down food more efficiently.

Alfalfa sprouts also contain high levels of other bioactive plant compounds such as coumarins, saponins, phytosterols, phytoestrogens, flavonoids, and alkaloids. Phytoestrogens are chemically similar to estrogen.

How To Use

  1. Add 3-7 tablespoons of alfalfa sprouting seeds to a sprouting jar.
  2. Fill with water, leave for 15 minutes, and then rinse.
  3. Fill again with fresh water and stir the seeds to ensure they’re covered.
  4. Leave to soak for 8 hours or overnight.
  5. Empty the water, fill the jar with water, give them a shake, and empty the water.
  6. Leave the jar on its side for the water to drain.
  7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for 4-5 days.
  8. Your alfalfa sprouts should be ready if soft enough.
  9. Store the alfalfa sprouts in the fridge.
